Sex and Intimacy Coaching
What is Sex and intimacy coaching?
Sex and intimacy coaching is a healing relationship cultivated by both you and your coach with the goal of supporting your growth and exploration specifically in the realm of sex, intimacy, and relationships. There is a “talk” component to these sessions, but we also take action to practice what you’re learning. We will not have sex with each other, but we may practice having a consent conversation or learn how to tie someone up safely. In my experience, there is no better way to learn than by doing.
Who are you? What do you bring to the table?
Hi! The name’s Jo. I am a queer, genderfluid, polyamorous, neurodivergent femme. I have been into kink and BDSM since my very first foray into the sexual. I am a survivor of rape and have been on my own healing journey since I was 16. I am a recovering addict/alcoholic with experience in various 12-step programs and with a strong belief in harm reduction. I come from a working class background, working primarily in the service and non-profit industries, and have some experience in sex work.
My practice is rooted in the political. It is impossible to talk about our personal traumas, inhibitions, desires, and kinks without acknowledging the greater systems in which we exist. These systems have undoubtedly shaped how we experience ourselves and each other, especially our romantic and sexual/sensual partners. This doesn’t mean we’ll spend our sessions discussing the various injustices in the world and how they kill the vibe. But it does mean that we will occasionally talk about how these systems have influences you specifically.
I also ground my practice in the body. Our bodies hold so much wisdom and information that we may not even realize is there. If you’re anything like me, you may have been actively ignoring or drowning out whatever your body had been trying to say to you. Maybe you’ve forgotten how to listen to your body. Maybe you never learned how to in the first place. Together, we’ll work to help you cultivate a relationship with your body again. This will require the cultivation of trust, as in any relationship. It’s a beautiful process, but it’s doesn’t come without it’s fair share of growing pains. I may incorporate somatic practices I’ve learned from coursework with the Strozzi Institute or from practicing with my coach or other somatic practitioners.
